TCN Lagos Region Receives New 300MVA Power Transformer, Boosts Transmission Capacity

Barely a week after it announced that delivery of some transmission equipment spare parts at its Port-Harcourt Regional Office in Rivers State, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has disclosed that it took delivery of a new 300MVA 330/132/33kV power transformer at its Lekki 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation on April 30, 2023, the latest addition of new transformers delivered to the substation.

Earlier, the substation received two brand new 60/75MVA power transformers in February and three heavy-duty truckloads of transformer components in January, 2023, among others.

The company’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, in a statement noted that the TCN Management through its Lagos Region has continued to ensure prompt execution of transmission projects within the region.

“This entails the upgrade or total overhaul of its equipment where needed to achieve a more effective and efficient bulk transmission of electricity to the distribution load centers of the Ikeja and Eko DisCos and reduce to minimal, downtime that would have resulted from equipment failure. The Region equally undertakes the prompt maintenance of equipment to further preserve its lifespan”, she said.

On installation, the 300MVA 330/132/33kV power transformer will add 240MW to the Lekki Substation capacity.

“Presently, arrangements are being made to put the transformer on the plinth to enable its installation”, the statement added.

Meanwhile, under Lagos Region, several substations and line projects have been completed in the last one year, some of these include: Reconductoring and commissioning of the New Ikorodu/Shagamu 132kV line, Installation of 1x60MVA transformer at Egbin 132kV Substation, Installation of new 60MVA 132/33kV transformer at Itire 132kV Substation, Diversion of Aja/Egbin 330kV lines 3 & 4 to Aja/Omotosho/Epe 330kV lines 1&2, and Replacement of three defective circuit breaker interrupter of T1 45MVA transformer secondary circuit breaker.

“The Region has equally changed several other circuit breakers in different areas of the transmission region.

“TCN Lagos Region also installed several feeder bays in different substations such as Oworonshoki, Oke-Aro, and Egbin, among others. In addition to these, other projects have been proposed to further enhance power transmission within the Region”, the TCN spokesperson said.

Port-Harcourt Regional Office Received Spare Parts

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) had also announced that it recently received some transmission equipment spare parts at its Port-Harcourt Regional Office, Rivers State.

The company in a statement on Monday explained that the spares were for the prompt replacement of faulty parts and for maintenance in TCN substations within the region.

The parts delivered at the Port-Harcourt Regional Office comprised of Circuit Breakers, Isolators, Batteries, Battery Chargers, Relays, Lightning Arresters, etcetera.

The statement read:

These provide ready maintenance equipment for TCN engineers to respond rapidly to the need to change parts due to fault, in order to ensure minimal equipment downtime and enhance bulk power delivery in substations within the region.

“This is sequel to the massive project implementation drive in the region, which is in line with the ongoing execution of the Nigerian Electricity Grid Maintenance, Expansion and Rehabilitation Programme (NERGMERP) of the present Management of TCN.
