Stop Inciting the Public – Group Warns Labour Party Vice- Presidential Candidate
The Coalition of Civil Society Groups for Peace, Security, Good Governance, Equity and Justice has warned the Vice-Presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP), Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed against inciting the public against the government.
The group also congratulated the President-elect, Senator Bola Tinubu and urged him “not to be distracted by the Labour Party and their hirelings wearing the cassock.”
The group which noted that the 2023 general elections have been adjudged the most transparent and keenly- contested election in the annals of Nigerian history, said “Senator Bola Tinubu of the All Progressive Congress (APC) won the election consequent on his sound political pedigree and acceptance nationwide.
“As the governor of Nigeria’s most affluent and cosmopolitan state, the President-elect built coalition and established political structures across Nigeria.
“To the chagrin of our compatriots, Datti Baba-Ahmed, the Vice- Presidential candidate of the Labour Party threw caution to the winds by calling on the Chief Justice of the Justice Olukayode Ariwola and President Muhammadu Buhari not hold the inauguration of Senator Bola Tinubu as the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for alleged contravention of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”, the group said in a statement signed by its leader, Comrade James Okoronkwo.
The group lambasted the LP Vice-Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Datti Baba-Ahmed for inciting the public against the government, saying that “it was illogical, unjustifiable, groundless and wicked for a man who came a distant third in the just-concluded, election demanding to be declared winner, urging the security agencies to arrest him for his utterances is undermining national peace and security.
Continuing, the group stated that “Peter Obi lacks the locus standi to challenge the results of the 2023 Presidential election because he was not a member of the Labour Party for at least 30 days to the Labour Party’s Presidential Primary to be validly sponsored by the party,” noting that “Peter Obi, Datti Baba-Ahmed’s principal and Labour Presidential candidate resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on May 24th 2022 to join the Labour Party on May 27th 2022 in complete breach of the 2022 Electoral Act.”
Concluding, the coalition then charged the Labour Party Vice- Presidential candidate to await the outcome of their petition at the law courts.
