DSS Arrests Emefiele After Tinubu Suspended Him from Office As CBN Governor

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has suspended the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr Godwin Emefiele, from office with immediate effect. This is even as the CBN Governor has been arrested by the Department Of State Services (DSS).

His suspension was announced in a statement signed by Willie Bassey, a Director in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation on Friday night.

He said that the development was sequel to the ongoing investigation of his office and the planned reforms in the financial sector of the economy.

The statement from the Office Of The Secretary To The Government Of The Federation reads:

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has suspended the Central Bank Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele, CFR, from office with immediate effect.

This is sequel to the ongoing investigation of his office and the planned reforms in the financial sector of the economy.

Mr Emefiele has been directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who will act as the Central Bank Governor pending the conclusion of investigation and the reforms.

Meanwhile, the DSS has detained the suspended CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele.

He is said to be kept in the DSS custody until further notice.
