Nigeria-born reigning world record gold medalist in the women’s 100m hurdles, Tobi Amusan has claim victory in the 100m hurdles Silesia Diamond League, after overcoming a slow start.
Amusan raced to victory, finishing ahead of the stacked field in 12.34s that equalled the meeting record in Chorzow, Poland.
She edged out former record holder, Kendra Harrison, who crossed the line in 12.35 seconds, while 2019 world champion, Nia Ali, of the USA finished third in 12.38s.
This exceptional achievement not only marked Amusan’s fastest time this season, but also equals Jasmine Camacho-Quinn’s meeting record, catapulting her to the top of the Diamond League standings.
Amusan’s victory is her second consecutive win in the Diamond League, following her triumph in Stockholm, and she now holds a seven-point lead over Camacho-Quinn in the overall rankings.
Her peak form rates her high as she prepares to defend her world title.
She said it was not an easy race as she is battling injuries in her hamstring and knee.
She wrote on her Facebook “One race at a time, my coach has always told me that, and I’m happy to have finished here with another season’s best and the meeting record,” she said.
Tobi Amusa added, “All Glory to God and a big shout out (to) my coach and my entire team as well as my ever-supportive fans.”
