Amid increasing attacks by the Unknown Gunmen (UGM) and other criminal activities in the five states of the region, the Governors of South East states have risen from their meeting in Enugu with a resolve to intensify fight against insecurity in the region.
In a communique read after the meeting by the Chairman of South East Governors’ Forum and Governor of Imo State, Sen. Hope Uzodinma, the Forum commended the security agencies for their cooperation and achievements so far and encourage them not to relent.
“We wish to categorically State that the perpetrators of insecurity and their sponsors in our region are criminals and shouldn’t be seen as legitimate agitators.
“Therefore, upon arrest, they should be dealt with in accordance with the laws of the land”, they said.
The forum also resolved to hold security and economic summit in the zone as soon as possible.
In attendance were all the South East Governors.
