Delta Works Ministry: Aniagwu, Izeze Assume Duty Talk Tough

The Commissioner for Works in charge of Rural roads, Mr Charles Aniagwu and his counterpart in Charge of Highways and Urban roads, Hon Reuben Izeze have officially assumed duty with a call on contractors handling roads and bridges to stick to standard or face severe sanctions.

The Commissioners made the call while addressing management staff of the Ministry of Works in Asaba on Wednesday.

Mr Aniagwu who thanked Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for finding him worthy to serve in the works sector said no effort will be spared in the execution of projects under his office.

He told the Permanent Secretary and Management staff to ensure that they follow laid down procedures in the conceptualization of any road and bridge projects for it to scale through scrutiny when tendered at the State Executive Council meeting for deliberation and approval.

He assured staff that everybody would be carried along in the scheme of things reminding them of the need to bring their professional competence to bear in the discharge of their duties.

Mr Aniagwu pledged to work with his colleague in charge of Highways and Urban roads to ensure that the legacies of the present administration stood the test of time.

The Commissioner for Works in charge of Highways and Urban roads, Hon Reuben Izeze said the task was enormous and affirmed that the vision of the present administration was to bequeath to Deltans quality roads and bridges in urban and rural areas.

He said the Ministry of Works was strategic to any government hence the need to ensure that all projects complied with best practices.

In his welcome address, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Works, Mr Fred Edafioghor congratulated the two commissioners on their appointment, swearing in and deployment to the Ministry and assured them of the support of staff.

He said so far, over 400 projects comprising of roads and bridges were inherited from the past administration pointing out that the projects were at different stages of completion.
