ā€¦Calls For Tough Sanctions Against Marketers With Inaccurate Metering System

Foremost sociopolitical pressure group, the Save Enugu Group (SEG), has commended Governor Peter Mbah-led Enugu State government over effort to end the shortchanging of consumers by filling stations in the state, calling for tough sanctions against marketers with inaccurate metering system.

The Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon. Emeka Ajogu, had during an unscheduled visit to petrol stations in Enugu metropolis to ascertain the alleged metre short-change by filling station owners in the state confirmed that none of the filling stations sales with accurate metering system, including major distributing stations.

In a statement signed by the Publicity Secretary of the group, Hon. Pascal Ololo, the Group noted that the activities of the marketers who inflate pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and shortchange customers remained a big challenge faced by residents over the years.

ā€œThe move to checkmate the illegal activities of filling station owners in the state by the Enugu State Government, under the leadership of Governor Peter Mbah, is very commendable and a legacy achievement if sustained.

ā€œThe assurances to the residents of Enugu State about its sensitivity to their plight is unarguable in this regard as the use of inaccurate metering system in the state has long became a norm.

ā€œWe join the state government in urging the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN, to ensure that filling stations in Enugu State comply with accurate metering system.

ā€œThe use of inaccurate meters to dispense products amount to stealing from customers and, beyond being unacceptable, should be heavily sanctioned.

ā€œWe equally commend Governor Peter Mbahā€™s Administration for its commitment to making life better for ndį»‹-Enugu, which it has demonstrated since May 29, especially in efforts towards tackling security challenges in the stateā€, the SEG.
