Governor Obaseki’s Unjust Behaviour Towards Deputy Governor Shaibu: A Threat to Democracy in Edo State
By Williams Ayonote
Governor Obaseki’s continuous mistreatment and oppression of Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu is a grave injustice and a direct assault on the rights and dignity of the people of Edo State. It is imperative that we, as responsible citizens, condemn such behavior in the strongest terms possible.
In a democratic society, the relationship between a governor and deputy governor should be one of collaboration, mutual respect, and teamwork, aimed at serving the best interests of the people. Governor Obaseki’s actions, however, paint a different picture entirely.
It is important to remember that public officeholders are entrusted with the responsibility of serving the people, not personal vendettas or power plays.
Depriving the Deputy Governor of access to his office is not only undemocratic but also a violation of the principles of good governance.
We must unite and speak out against this oppressive behavior, for if we remain silent in the face of such injustice, we are paving the way for a future where anyone who dares to challenge those in power may face similar mistreatment.
Governor Obaseki does not own Edo State Government House; it belongs to the people of Edo State, and no one has the right to deny any elected official their rightful access to it.
It is high time we demand accountability and respect for the rule of law from our leaders. Enough is enough, and we must stand together to ensure that the principles of democracy and justice prevail in Edo State. This is not just about Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu; it is about upholding the values and rights that form the foundation of our democratic society.
