SANWO-OLU CONDOLES GAC LEADER, OLUSI OVER WIFE’S DEATH
October 14, 2023
Governor prays for the repose of the dead Lagos State Governor Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has sympathized with Prince Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi, Governance Advisory Council leader over the passing of his dear wife, Alhaja Mariam Iyabo Olusi on Saturday.
The Governor described the death of Alhaja Olusi as a sad episode and a personal loss to him, the President, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and the entire political family of the All Progressives Congress and people of the State.
In a statement issued and signed by his media aide on Saturday, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, the Governor said although the Holy scriptures are clear about life and death as one of the most constant human occurrences, it is usually not very pleasant when we lose our loved ones. He however expressed joy that Alhaja lived a good life and left a lasting legacy, which he advised everyone, including Prince Olusi and the larger family to hold on to and be happy for.
He said: “It is with a deep sense of sorrow that I commiserate with our leader and father, Alhaji Prince Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi, on the passing of his beloved wife and matriarch of the family, Alhaja Mariam Iyabo Olusi, today, 14th day of October, 2023.
“Alhaja was not just a wife and mother, but a soulmate and pillar of support to our leader, Prince Tajudeen Olusi. She epitomized humility, compassion and was also an embodiment of motherhood in the Olusi Royal dynasty. She was supportive of everyone that came in contact with her during her lifetime.
“It is a deep loss for the Olusi but we must remember what Allah says in the Holy Quran: Ina lillah waina Ilahi rajihun…”Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed, to Him we return.”
“On behalf of my dear wife, Ibijoke, leaders, executives and members of our great party, the All Progressives Congress as well as the good people and Government of Lagos State, I commiserate with our leader, Alhaji Prince Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi on the demise of his beloved wife, Alhaja Mariam Iyabo Olusi.
“I pray that the Almighty Allah grants Mama Aljannah firdaus and grant the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable.” Sanwo-Olu said.
COALITION OF CIVIL SOCIETIES’ REACTION
It’s so painful to commiserate with our caring father, Mentor, and Leader of decades in the June 12 Struggles, and in all Progressive Parties, starting from the MKO Abiola Social Democratic Party (SDP), to Alliance for Democracy (AD) and Today, All Progressives’ Congress (APC), Prince Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi, over the passing of his dear Wife and Soul mate, Alhaja Mariam Iyabo Olusi, aged 77.
This is a personal loss to me again, after the death of my loving mother, Madam Rafatu Agbeke and that of my foster mother, Deaconess Florence Ibukun Famurewa and to all of us, Youths, Civil Societies, Traditional, Religious and Political Classes in Nigeria. Death as they say, is an inevitable end of human life. The reason why we must be mindful of our characters on daily basis.
Our Leader was the SDP Chairman in Lagos State in 1992/1993 and former Vice National Chairman, Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Southwest Zone, and presently, Leader, Governor’s Advisory Council, Lagos State. As Prince of Lagos, he slugged it out with His Imperial Majesty, Oba Rilwan Akiolu I, in his attempt to ascend the throne of his late father, Sanusi Olusi, as Oba of Lagos without knowing that God, the Omnipotent, had different assignments for him politically in the Southwest and Nigeria.
It’s on the record that he personally sponsored June 12 @ 30 Special Prayer for MKO Abiola family and June 12 Victims held Thursday, 22 June, 2023, inside MKO Abiola House, Off Toyin Street, Ikeja, Lagos State, featuring late President MKO Abiola Son, Alhaji Lekan Abiola, the 2 Representatives of Olubadan of Ibadanland, his Daughter, Prince Olayinka Balogun and High Chief Lekan Alabi, Moye Olubadan of Ibadanland, Engineer Joshua Olayinka Popoola, NNPP Gubernatorial Candidate, Prof Ishiaq Akintola of MURIC, Comrade Linus Okoroji, Chairman, June 12 Coalition, Comrade Bioun Mustapha, Comrade Akin Orisagbemi, both June 12 Victims, Sheikh Sherif Mahmud, Imam of MKO Abiola Mosque, Madam Salewa Lawal, Widow of MKO Abiola Driver, Mr Donatus Amatokwu, brain behind N2000 MKO Abiola Currency and other family members of MKO Abiola, bringing to an end 8 month Celebration of June 12 @ 30, which earlier got to the peak on June on Monday, 12 June, 2023, in Abuja under my coordination
I have been working as an Adviser to our Leader for Decades and this has given me the rare opportunity to know the late Martriarch of Olusi family and Pillar of support to our Leader very very well and all her Children, including my 2 close friends, Chairman of Lagos Island Local Government, Prince Adetoyese Olusi and his younger Brother, Prince Sola Olusi, who is the immediate past Special Assistant on Local Government Affairs to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State. She was friendly, calm, intelligent and an embodiment of motherhood in the Olusi Ruling House.
Our Leader and former Governor of Oyo State, Great Lam, of blessed memory, would always ask of 2 former Legislators from me anytime we met, Prince Olusi and Senator Ayo Fasanmi, because of my working relationship with the Leadership of the Party in the Southwest zone, including the late father of the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Oba Olatunji Hamzat and others
We take solace in the fact that she left indelible footprints in the sand of time. It’s our prayer that God gives all of us the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. May Almighty Allah grant her Aljanah Firdaus.

“Mama Olusi lived a fulfilled life” —- Adebayo Temitope, P.A. to late Afenifere Chieftain, Senator Ayo Fasanmi
The death of Alhaja Mariam Iyabo Olusi, came to the family of Afenifere as a rude shock. This is the time the presence of Mama is most needed to support our leader — Prince Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi as National Leader Afenifere Egbe Ilosiwaju Yoruba. Baba is one of the same genuine Awoists who did not deviate from the progressive ideology.
Baba took the mantle of leadership of Afenifere Egbe Ilosiwaju Yoruba from late Senator Biyi Durojaye after the demise of late Senator Ayo Fasanmi, who lead the Group before he passed on July 29th, 2020.
The late Mama, has always been in support of our Leader — Prince Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi during the struggles to return Democracy back to Nigeria. Mama was very supportive of the family while Baba Olusi was in the front line in Nigeria politics to defend the masses.
My heartfelt condolences go to our leader — Prince Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi and the family. May the good Lord be with them and give them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss of their loved one. May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace.
Hon Adebayo Temitope Personal Assistant to the Late Senator Ayo Fasanmi
