Ekiti: ALGON National President Hon. Alabi Hails Governor Oyebanji For Successful Conduct Of LG Election
…Says Grassroots Development is Sine Qua None to Inclusive Prosperity
Overwhelmed with joy over the recent election of 38 new council Chairmen in Ekiti state, the ALGON National President Hon. Kolade David Alabi has sent his message of appreciation to Governor Biodun Oyebanji over the historic milestone in the 3rd Tier of government and congratulated his new colleagues.
In a press statement released last night from his Abuja media office, the ALGON President stated that Ekiti has keyed fully into the popular will of the people as an inflexion of what the Constitution unambiguously provides in section 7 as (amended) by having a timely transition from one democratically elected officers at the council to another upon expiration.
He noted that consistency in election process in the local governments has always provided vista of opportunity to those states to reap the benefits of such exercises especially where non interference in the accounts of those councils are envisioned .
Hon. Alabi went further to list other gains of elections in the councils citing states like Lagos, Nasarawa, Delta, Enugu, Kano, Kaduna, Cross River, FCT, Katsina and a few others
He said there are tangible evidences in the horizon which underscores the need to tow such legitimate parth as part of efforts aimed at strengthening the local governance for meaningful development in the rural level.
According to him “Any state that promoted the conduct of Local Government Election, is not only development friendly, but peaceful, visionary and people-oriented thereby distilling the essence of progress. These are part of attractions and set parameters for any investors including Foreign Direct Investment, because it shows the level of consciousness of it’s leaders to promote, protect and creates enabling environment, guarantee ease of doing business in it’s ecosystem alongside other safety nets that discourages divestment.
“Let me appreciate the Ekiti State for rising to this responsibility in en trenching rural governance to the people on which the plank of our democratic principles is engraved. While we are thanking him we are reminding other Governors to key in and for those of Plateau, Benue where the tenure of Democratically elected officers were truncated to revisit their action in the interest of peace, justice and fairness. We will continue to support them until justice is served.
In ALGON we believe that an injury for one is that same for all, so no retreat till the decision of their illegal ouster is reversed through the legal process”.
“In the last five years as ALGON National President, I and my Exco have continued to canvass for the promotion of this course with several high-powered multi stakeholder engagements including the Arms of Government in both federal and the states as well as the Nigerian Governor’s Forum), even the Civil Society on the need end the obfuscation of the system, and free the space for poor masses to feel the pulse of governance in the rural areas, some how is a work in progress.”
I t will be recalled that available records have shown that the pivotal roles of a democratic system world over provides the impetus and momentum for innovative leadership which has eluded the people for long due to the dysfunctional style of tuning the LGA’s.
ALGON has continued to list and amplify these gains for development to thrive if properly domesticated at the rural level.
We therefore appreciate these political will demonstrate so far in guaranteeing constitutional democracy by the Ekiti state Governor and the people choosing their leaders, it will be right to use this medium to tell His Excellency that ALGON is behind him as another local government-friendly Governor, ALGON will not hesitate in joining you to hold the new elected officer accountable via our peer review mechanism and comparing notes”.
“I therefore call on them to make sacrifices in accordance with their campaign promise.”
