Greenhouse Project Implementation: Gov. Oborevwori Sets Up Investigative Committee Over Alleged Infractions
….Suspends Agric Commissioner Hon. Omoun, Three Others
Arising from the outcome of the review of the implementation of the state’s Greenhouse project by the Delta State Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has constituted a seven-man committee to investigate the claims and perceived infractions related to the management of the scheme by the Ministry.
The committee is chaired by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Kingsley Emu.
According to a statement personally signed by the SSG yesterday, the state government noted that “consequent upon the interim report of the committee and in other to have an unimpeded access to information during the period of the investigations, Governor Oborevwori has approved the immediate suspension of Hon. Omoun Perekebena Perez, Hon. Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources…”
The Governor also ordered Messrs Bennett Ezon-Abode Agamah, Permanent Secretary; Engr. Oki Preowei Yintareke, Assistant Director, Agricultural Engineering; and Mr. Gabriel Idiatacheko, Chief Accountant, to proceed on compulsory leave until further notice in line with Civil Service extant rules.
The statement further added that the government’s action “is in no way a presumption of guilt but rather a necessary measure to uphold the sanctity of the investigative processes already instituted which is to ensure that the investigation is conducted without any potential for undue influence or bias.”
The Street Reporters Newspaper recalls that in the pursuit of the successful implementation of his MORE Agenda, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori had the readiness of his administration to improve on the agricultural value chain to ensure food security and job creation in the state.
To this end, the Governor, through the Accelerated Agricultural Development Scheme (AADS) at Mbiri Farm Settlement, established 30 greenhouses for the cultivation of tomatoes and other vegetables, and the Agro-Industrial Park, Aboh-Ogwashi for
rice milling and others, in Ika North-East and Aniocha South local government areas, respectively.
The Greenhouse project has become a subject of controversy leading to the suspension of the commissioner and three others for unbiased probe of its implementation.
