Kwara Government Reiterates Commitment to Eradicating Road Encroachment, Clears Some Strategic Locations

The Kwara State Government has again reiterated its commitment to removing any impediment to free flow of both vehicular and human traffic on our roads, especially within Ilorin, the State Capital.

A statement by the Ministry’s Press Secretary, Yakub Kamaldeen Aliagan, noted that the State Commissioner for Environment, Mallam Shehu Ndanusa Usman stated this in Ilorin on Wednesday, while updating newsmen on the recent exercise carried out at some strategic locations in the metropolis during enforcement action.

According to the Commissioner, “myself, the Commissioner for Business, Innovative and Technology and Commissioner for Works have had several meetings with Post Office Marketers and other stakeholders on the need to stop displaying their goods under the bridge, road median and pedestrian walkways for easy movement of people and vehicles.

“During our discussions, we took them to Soludero pack and showed them where to display their goods and also informed others to move to Kulende Market to display their goods, with no avail.”

Ndanusa added further that the Ministry also gave them till 15th of December, year 2023 to vacate the areas, but they appealed to the Ministry to give them till December ending for them to be able to market their goods during the festivities.

“We granted their request and agreed to vacate the place on the first week of January, 2024 but to our dismay, they refused to vacate up till this morning that we started the enforcement.

“Let me use this medium to warn marketers at Post Office and all other major markets in the state that we are not going back on our decision on this encroachments Whoever is caught displaying wares on the pedestrian walkway, road median, under the bridge and any other area that will inhibit the free movement of vehicles or people plying the road will face the full wrath of the law.”

Mallam Ndanusa, reiterated further the commitment of the present administration in the state, to put sanity on our roads, in order to allow for free movement of vehicles and humans to prevent incessant havocs often caused by encroachment of roads.
