By Abdul-Azeez Suleiman

In the history of our country, we have witnessed periods of great progress followed by setbacks that have caused immense suffering and hardship for many.

The Northern region of Nigeria has seen its fair share of challenges and victories over the years, and it is important for us to reflect on the lessons learned and the path ahead.
One cannot deny that progress has been made in terms of development, education, and infrastructure in the North.

The efforts of visionary leaders like Sir Ahmadu Bello have laid a strong foundation for the growth and prosperity of the region. However, it is crucial to remember that progress is not automatically guaranteed. It requires constant vigilance, effort, and dedication to maintain and build upon the achievements of the past.

Unfortunately, history has shown us that progress can be easily eroded if we are not attentive and proactive in safeguarding it. In times of complacency and apathy, the gains we have made can quickly slip away, leaving us in a state of regression. This is why it is essential for us to remain mindful, organized, and vocal in advocating for the rights and welfare of our people.

One of the most powerful tools we have at our disposal is the act of voting. By participating in the democratic process, we have the opportunity to shape the future of our nation and influence the policies that impact our lives.

Voting is not just a right; it is a responsibility that we must take seriously in order to protect the progress we have achieved and secure a better future for generations to come.

When faced with challenges and uncertainties, we all have a choice to make. We can passively accept the status quo, hoping that others will take up the fight on our behalf. Or we can stand up and make our voices heard, using whatever platforms we have to advocate for change and push for a more just and equitable society.

We must mobilize the men and women of this and the next generation of northerners to rise to the occasion and work towards raising the bar not only for the North but for the entire Nigeria.

Let us draw inspiration from the courage and tenacity of leaders like Sir Ahmadu Bello and strive to build a brighter future for all of our children.

Let us not take our progress for granted. Let us remain vigilant, organized, and vocal in our pursuit of a better tomorrow.

Together, we can overcome any obstacle and create a more just, equitable, and prosperous society for all.

The time to act is now, and the future of our nation is in our hands. Let us rise to the challenge and make a difference.
