NDE Moves to Promote Women Participation in Job Creation, Empowers 20 Women in Oyo
As part of effort geared towards combating the menace of unemployment in the country, the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has assured that it will continue to impact quality denand driven skills targeted towards women employment promotion, in Oyo State.
Speaking at the orientation/flag-off ceremony of a five-day training on Confessionary making for 20 women, held at NDE/MDG Centre, Apampa, Ibadan, the NDE Director- General.
Mallam Abubakar Nuhu Fikpo, who was represented at the event by the State Coordinator, NDE Oyo State, Mrs Steve- Ogundipe Olayinka, explained that the training was put together by the agency for women in Oyo and across the nation in line with the dogged effort of the present administration aimed at tackling unemployment and poverty in the country.
The Director-General further said that training which falls under the direct supervision of Women Employment Branch (WEB) was meant to consolidate on the gains made over the years.
He noted that branch was set up in September 1991 to promote women participation in NDE job creation programmes to foster gender sensitivity of the Directorate’s programme among women.
He pointed out that Directorate is not unaware of the potentials of women for national development, if sufficiently empowered and noted that since 1991, series of programmes have been organised for women across the country who are now successful in their private businesses.
The D.G added that by so doing, they are now able to manage the home front better.
Also speaking, the Director, Small Scale Enterprise Department,, SSE, Mr. Alao, Babatunde Ismail, who was represented by the Head of SSE Department, NDE Oyo State, Engr. Paul Ilori, said the NDE realised that the women constitute approximately half of the nation’s population are the backbone of the family which is the bedrock and foundation of the society.
Consequently, he said the Directorate carefully selected 20 women within the Local Governments in Oyo state who were trained in Confectionary making such as Cake, Chin Chin, Meat Pie, Egg Roll, Pea Nut Zobo, among others to accelerate women’s contribution to the economy.
He therefore appealed to the participants to make good use of rare opportunity to become self-reliant and agents of change in their communities and country at large.
“I strongly believe that at the end of the training, you will be able to stand on your own, be supportive to your homes and your standard of living will be better off”, he said.
