UNN Turns 252 First Class Graduates, 961 Masters Degrees @ 52nd Convocation
A total of 252 graduates will be awarded 1st class degrees of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN )at the Institution’s 52nd Convocation ceremony.
Speaking during the press briefing at Enugu Campus, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Charles Arizechukwu Igwe said that the award of Ist degrees and diplomas of UNN would hold at 10:00am on Friday, 10 May 2024 at Margaret Ekpo convocation Arena at UNN.
The award of higher degrees, postgraduate diplomas and honorary doctorate degrees of UNN would hold on Saturday, 11 May at 11:00am at Margaret Ekpo convocation Arena, UNN.
He announced that a total of 12,526(an increase of 1082 compared to 51st convocation figures) first degrees of UNN would be awarded in the 52nd convocation ceremony.
Breakdown of the bachelors degrees according to Prof. Igwe showed Ist class honours=252, 2nd class honours (Upper)=4,834, 2nd class honours (Lower)=5,883, 3rd class honours=747, Pass=25, Unclassified=746. Total=12,526.
On postgraduate degrees, he said that a total of 1,438 postgraduate degrees and diplomas of UNN would be awarded at the 52nd convocation ceremony, adding that the breakdown is 412 persons would earn the doctorate degrees, 961 Masters degrees while 75 postgraduate diplomas will be awarded.
He further said that 4 persons would be awarded honorary doctorate degrees: Prof. El-Anatsui Dr. of Letters, Brig-Gen. J.O.J. Okoloagu(Rtd)-Dr. of pub. Admin., Mr. Igor Weli- Dr. of Pub. Admin. and Sir Emeka Chuka Wilson Orakwue Offor- Dr. of Bus. Admin. All Honoris Causa.
Prof. Igwe also said 10 persons would be awarded profs. Emeritus, to include Profs. Bartho Okolo and Benjamin Ozumba, among others.
He also said he would be leaving as VC by June 10, 2024 and thanked the media for being genuine and worthy friends of UNN.
He also, noted that the convocation lecture would hold on Thursday, May 9, 2024 , and would be delivered by His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodimma, CON, the Governor of Imo State and a former Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The interesting topic of his lecture is”Why Nigerian Universities should lead the way to a new Nigeria”. The lecture would be chaired by another distinguished Nigerian, General Ik Omar Sanda Nwachukwu (Rtd). Gen. Ike Nwachukwu who has served the country in various capacities, namely as the Military Governor of old Imo State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
