Determined to combat the menace of unemployment in the country, the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has commenced an intensive three months Environmental Beautification Training Scheme, EBTS, for twenty (20) unemployed persons in Oyo State.
Speaking on behalf of the NDE Director-General, Malllam Abubakar Nuhu Fikpo, at the official flag-off/ orientation programme for the 20 EBTS trainees in Ibadan, the State Coordinator, NDE Oyo State, Mrs. Steve-Ogundipe Olayinka, assured that the directorate would continue to impact specialised and marketable skills on unemployed youths so as to boost their chances of being employed or becoming entrepreneurs.
“The EBTS scheme is another bold step taken by the NDE under the Special Public Works Department to reduce mass unemployment among the youths in Oyo State and the country in general through the beautification of our environment. It is designed to empower the unemployed and unskilled school leavers in hard and soft landscape as well as Plaster of Paris, POP. It is hoped that the scheme would lead to acquisition of relevant skills in erosion control, environmental beautification/protection and improved sanitation”, he said.
He thanked the Minister for Labour and Employment, Hon. Nkiruka Onyejeocha, for her immensed support and assured that the agency would continue to redouble it’s efforts so as to drastically reduce the spate of unemployment in the country in line with the objective of the present administration.
Also Speaking, the director, Special Public Works Department, Ifeoma Ezepue Mrs, who was represented by HOD SPW, NDE Oyo state, Mr. Adedotun Adu, said the twenty(20) lucky trainees, drawn across the state for scheme has commenced a three months intensive training which will run through July 2024.
He pointed out that the specialized training scheme which was designed to align the beneficiies with current demands and development in the eonomy, would transform lives and also deepen the country’s collective drive towards employment generation and poverty reduction.
He also appealed to the mastertrainers to continue nurture the trainees so that in no distance time they will be skilled and self-reliant and advised trainees to ensure that they make the best use of the golden opportunity.
