The Oyo State Government has raised an alert for heightened vigilance and proactive measures against a possible cholera outbreak.
Health Commissioner Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi emphasized the urgency during her visit to an Ibadan hospital treating two individuals with suspected cholera.
Cholera, a bacterial disease spread through contaminated food or water, can lead to severe dehydration and even death if untreated. The patients, construction workers from Lagos, are under close observation.
Dr. Ajetunmobi assured that the health ministry and partners are diligently working to prevent any fatalities linked to the Lagos outbreak.
Preventive actions include extensive surveillance, public awareness campaigns, and preparedness of isolation facilities. The public is urged to maintain hygiene and seek immediate medical attention if symptoms arise.
