CUPP Raises Alarm Over Alleged Plot to Frame Opposition Lawmaker Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere
In a statement released today, the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) expressed concern over an alleged plot to frame Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, the spokesperson for the Federal opposition lawmakers coalition G60. The CUPP, which represents all opposition political parties in Nigeria, claims to have received intelligence regarding a grand conspiracy involving a highly placed actor in the Rivers crisis.
According to the CUPP spokesperson, Mark Adebayo, a former governor of Rivers State is reportedly unhappy with Ugochinyere’s efforts to expose societal ills and defend democracy. The opposition parties alleged that plot involves using the police force to fabricate charges against Ugochinyere, including murder, rape, kidnapping, and gun running. The goal is to silence his voice and tarnish his reputation.
The CUPP has called on the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Commissioner and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to investigate this matter thoroughly. They emphasize that no unit of the police force, whether in the FCT or at headquarters, should be involved in any attempt to frame the leading opposition lawmaker. The CUPP vows to resist such actions and protect one of their own—the people’s messenger.
Ugochinyere, a pro-democracy advocate and vocal opponent, has been at the forefront of battles in Rivers and Kano States. His unwavering commitment to public interest, peace, stability, and progress has earned him respect among right-thinking Democrats and party members. While others remain silent, Ugochinyere continues to fight for justice and correct societal ills, even as he serves as a ranking member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State.
