The Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to building a better nation through strategic investments in critical areas of human and national development. Speaking during a visit to Grimard College of Nursing Sciences in Anyigba, Kogi State, Obi emphasized the pivotal role of health and education in shaping Nigeria’s future.

Obi’s visit to Grimard College was marked by a generous donation of N10 million to support the training of nurses. He highlighted the crucial role nurses play in primary healthcare delivery, emphasizing that they are at the heart of the nation’s well-being. However, he expressed concern that Nigeria remains underdeveloped due to insufficient investment in critical areas such as health, education, and poverty alleviation.

“Nigeria faces serious challenges today, including insecurity and socio-economic issues,” Obi stated. “These challenges stem from our failure to aggressively invest in health, education, and poverty reduction.”

He called on governments at all levels to prioritize these sectors, stressing that sustainable development hinges on robust investments in human capital.

Obi’s advocacy extends beyond national borders. He has consistently urged donor agencies to join the cause, recognizing that investing in the future of Nigerian children benefits society as a whole. “Our commitment is not just for today but for generations to come,” he asserted.

Addressing nursing students directly, Obi emphasized the nobility of their profession. “Nurses are the backbone of healthcare,” he said. “As experts warn of a severe shortage, we must proactively invest in their training.” He envisioned a scenario where Nigeria produces enough skilled nurses to meet domestic needs while contributing to global healthcare.

Obi expressed gratitude to Bishop Anthony Ademu Adaji, the Proprietor of Grimard College, and the dedicated staff for their commitment to training compassionate and competent healthcare professionals. “Together,” he concluded, “we can build a New Nigeria—one that provides access to quality healthcare and educational opportunities. It is possible.”
