Coalition of Pro-Democracy Groups to Hold Mega Rally Against Military Takeover in Abuja
A coalition of pro-democracy groups, in conjunction with local and foreign journalists, has announced a mega rally to protest against military takeover in Nigeria. The event, tagged “Tinubu Mandate Protection Rally (Part II),” is scheduled to hold on Monday, July 23, 2024, at Unity Fountain Square, FCT, Abuja.
The rally, which is the third national protest since 2011, aims to promote democracy and reject any form of military takeover in the country. The event will feature prominent speakers, including Alhaji Tanko Yakassai, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, Comrade Segun Mayegun, Alhaji Yerima Shettima, Hon. James Faleke, Alhaji Asari Dukobo, Chief (Mrs.) Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, Chief (Barrister) Oliver Okonkwo, Barrister Abuka Omobaba Onalo, and Hon. Kaka Usman.
The rally will be chaired by Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, with Senator Shehu Sani as the co-chairman. The event is expected to attract a large crowd of pro-democracy activists, civil society organizations, and concerned citizens.
In a statement signed by Comrade Awa Bamiji, National Coordinator of the Coalition of Pro-Democracy Groups for a Better Nigeria, the group emphasized that attendance is strictly voluntary and self-sponsored, with maximum security guaranteed.
The coalition urged Nigerians to come out en masse to support the rally, which aims to promote democracy, good governance, and the rule of law. The group also expressed its support for the present government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging him to succeed in his mandate.
The event is expected to be a peaceful protest, with the coalition urging participants to remain law-abiding and orderly throughout the rally. The coalition also appreciated the security agencies for their cooperation and support in ensuring a successful event.
The rally is scheduled to commence at 11 am prompt, and participants are expected to assemble at Unity Fountain Square, FCT, Abuja.
