New Students Of UNN Urged To Promote Self-sufficiency In Food Production

The Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Prof. Peter Ikemefuna Ezeaku has called on the fresh students of the Faculty to evolve ideas that could make the UNN, State and the nation self-sufficient in food production.

He also enjoined them to undertake studies into the examples of other nations which, a few years ago, were in Nigeria’s present socio-economic predicament, but through their ingenuity and commitment, transformed their economies from the state of under-development to that of relative buoyancy and prosperity.

Prof. Ezeaku gave the charge in UNN today while admitting the students formally to the membership of the UNN during the 50th matriculation ceremony of UNN.

The Prof. of soil science reminded the students that as freshmen, their parents, the UNN and the public would be keenly interested in their success and would keep watchful eyes on their activities.

He assured them that the present UNN authorities was prepared to give the necessary moral and material support and advised them not to abuse or misuse the gesture.

Prof. Ezeaku then remarked that if they succeeded, Nigeria would be assured of a better tomorrow and urged them not to fail.

Present during the event were the Heads of Department of Animal Science, Prof. Samuel Machebe, Agric. Extension, Prof. Mrs. Mabel Ukamaka Dimelu, Agric. Economics/ Agro.Buziness, Prof. Anselm Enete, Soil Science, Prof. Mrs. Ifeyinwa Uzo and Nutrition and Dietetics, Prof. Mrs. Vivian Nkiruka Ibeanu.

Others included Crop Science, Prof. Kevin Ikechukwu Ugwuoke, Food Science and Technology, Prof. Mrs. Eunice Uzodinma and Home Science and Management, Prof. Davidson Gloria, represented by Dr. Mrs. Helen Onyeke.

Also present were Prof. Bonaventure Echezona, Prof. Sunday Owele Obalum, Dr. Chukwuemeka Vincent Azuka, Prof. John Ikechukwu Eze, Dr. Oluchukwu Margaret Mary Nwadi and Dr. Matthew Onodugo.
