Unemployed Youth Association of Nigeria Urges Patience, Dialogue Amidst Planned Protest
The Kwara State Chapter of the Unemployed Youth Association of Nigeria (UYAN) has appealed to its members and fellow youths across the country to exercise patience and refrain from participating in the planned nationwide protest tagged ‘#EndBadGovernance’.
In a press briefing held on July 29, 2024, Comrade Rasheed Shuaib, Chairman of UYAN Kwara State Chapter, stated, “We understand the frustrations and concerns of our fellow citizens, but we believe that things will get better soon. As youths, we have a crucial role in protecting our national assets and promoting peace.”
Shuaib emphasized the importance of patience and constructive dialogue, urging youths to “give the government a chance to address our concerns” and collaborate with them to find solutions to their challenges.
He acknowledged the government’s efforts in engaging with stakeholders and rolling out palliative measures but stressed the need for effective implementation and consideration of ordinary citizens’ voices and needs.
“We commend the government’s efforts, but we also call on them to always consider the ordinary citizens in any policy they intend to roll out, and ensure that their voices are heard and their needs are met,” Shuaib said.
UYAN Kwara State Chapter also advocated for monitoring and evaluation by Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to ensure that palliatives reach the targeted audience.
Shuaib then emphasized the importance of working together for a brighter future, stating, “We don’t have another country to call our own, so let’s work together to build a better Nigeria… Considering the efforts of the government, we urge our fellow youths to be a little bit patient, as there will be light after the tunnel.”
