Isoko North Council Chairman Ogorugba Intervenes in NURTW Factional Crisis, Sets Deadline for Resolution
In a significant move to address the lingering factional crisis within the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Isoko North, Council Chairman Hon. Prince Godwin Ogorugba has stepped in to broker peace between the warring factions. At a meeting with the leadership of the two factions in Ozoro on Monday, Ogorugba urged the groups to put aside their differences and work towards a unified leadership.
The Council Chairman emphasized that the park, which has been a point of contention between the factions, belongs to the council and should not be a source of conflict. He gave the factions a three-month ultimatum to resolve their issues and present a united front, under the supervision of their counsels.
To facilitate the resolution process, Ogorugba announced a three-month suspension of ticket sales to drivers, effectively introducing free loading in the affected area. This measure aims to reduce tensions and create a conducive environment for dialogue. Security agencies have been instructed to ensure compliance with this directive.
In addition, Ogorugba revealed plans for major renovations in the park, aimed at enhancing passenger comfort and amenities. This move is seen as a strategic effort to improve the overall functionality of the park and reduce potential flashpoints for conflict.
Leaders of the two factions, Comr Charles Ogba and Comr Joshua Ogu, presented their grievances during the meeting, with both laying claim to the park. Ogorugba’s intervention is seen as a decisive step towards resolving the crisis, which has plagued the union for an extended period.
The Council Chairman’s actions have been welcomed by stakeholders, who view his intervention as a necessary step towards restoring peace and stability within the NURTW in Isoko North. As the factions embark on the resolution process, all eyes are on the outcome, with hopes that a united and functional leadership will emerge within the stipulated timeframe.
