In a bid to revitalize and entrench good governance at the local government level, the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has partnered with top-notch stakeholders to organize an interactive workshop and conversation session on mainstreaming accountability in local governance. The event, held on August 5th, 2024, at the Shehu Musa Yar’adua Conference Centre in Abuja, brought together critical stakeholders, including AGORA Policy, YOGA Africa, Macarthur Foundation, and the Centre for Fiscal Responsibility and Transparency.

ALGON’s National President, Hon Aminu Mu’azu Maifata, represented by the Acting Director General, Alhaji Nuhu Ozigi (FCA), emphasized the need for effective leadership, advocacy, and support for local governments to achieve socioeconomic development. He highlighted the association’s commitment to ensuring equity, inclusiveness, and prosperity for all citizens.

The recent Supreme Court judgment on local government autonomy provided a catalyst for ALGON to consolidate its plan and policy direction. The association aims to build on this momentum to ensure responsive local government administration, leveraging technology, human capital development, and innovative approaches to meet its responsibilities.

This partnership marks a significant step towards promoting accountability and good governance at the local government level, ensuring that citizens receive the services they deserve. With ALGON’s commitment to effective leadership and advocacy, the association is poised to drive positive change and development in local government administration.
