#EndBadGovernance Protests Organisers Reveal 15 Ways Tinubu’s Administration Tried but Failed to Stop Revolt
As the ten days national hunger protests in Nigeria comes to an end on August 10, 2024, the organizers of the #EndBadGovernance protests in Nigeria have made allegations, revealing the shocking tactics employed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to stop the nationwide protests, but to no avail.
They noted that despite the government’s efforts to silence and discredit the movement, the protests have continued to gain momentum, with Nigerians demanding an end to bad governance and corruption.
According to the nationwide protests organizers, the Tinubu administration used a combination of bribery, intimidation, and propaganda to try and stop the protests.
Here are the 15 ways the government attempted to allegedly silence the movement:
- Bribing Imams, Pastors, traditional rulers, professors, SANs, NANS, social media influencers, and media with $45m
- Arresting organizers across Nigeria
- Invoking traditional ceremonies (Oro) and mobilizing cultists and thugs
- Using maximum force by Police, Military, and DSS
- Forging signatures of protest leaders to issue false press statements
- Freezing bank accounts of protest organizers
- Setting up phony groups that claimed to be pulling out of the protest
- Getting the Chief of Defence Staff to threaten journalists not to cover the revolt
- Creating an illegal “WATCHLIST” to witch-hunt Diasporan Nigerians
- Shooting teargas and live ammunition at protesters, resulting in deaths
- Pushing propaganda of foreign sponsorship and alleged use of Russian flags
- Obtaining ridiculous court exparte orders to confine protesters to government-designated locations
- Promoting ethnic, sectional, and religious sentiments to divide revolting Nigerians
- Accusing the North of sabotage and betrayal
- Attempting to cause division between Yorubas and Igbos by instigating “IgboMustGo”
Despite these efforts, the #EndBadGovernance protests have continued to grow, with Nigerians from all walks of life demanding an end to corruption and bad governance.
The protest organizers vowed to continue the movement for ten days or until their demands are met.
