Over 20 Medical Students Kidnapped in Benue State, N50m Ransom Demanded
A devastating series of attacks has left two states in Nigeria reeling, as bandits killed a top aide to the Katsina State Governor, his wife, and abducted another, while also kidnapping over 20 medical students in Benue State.
In Katsina State, Alhaji Sanusi Ango Gyaza, a former Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) for Kankia Local Government Area (LGA), was brutally murdered in his residence in Gyaza, Kankia LGA, on Friday night. His wife also lost her life in the attack, while another was taken captive by the assailants.
The Katsina State Police Command spokesperson, ASP Abubakar Sadi Aliyu, who could neither deny nor confirm the incident simply told SaharaReporters, “I will get back to you”.
Meanwhile, in Benue State, a group of medical and dental students from the University of Maiduguri and University of Jos were ambushed by gunmen while traveling to the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students (FECAMDS) annual convention in Enugu.
The attack occurred around 5:30 pm in the Otukpo area of Benue State, resulting in the kidnapping of over 20 students and a House Officer, identified as Dr. Louis.
The State Police Command confirmed the incident, sparking concerns for the safety of the abducted students.
The abductors have reportedly demanded a ransom of N50 million for their release.
These brazen attacks have raised serious concerns about the security situation in Nigeria, with many calling for increased measures to protect citizens.
The families of the victims and the wider community are left to grapple with the devastating consequences of these senseless acts of violence by kidnappers.
