Prof. Pat Utomi Reacts to Seizure of Presidential Jets, Links It to Gov. Amosun’s Contract Violation
Renowned Nigerian professor of political economy and management expert, Prof. Pat Utomi, has weighed in on the controversy surrounding the seizure of three Nigerian Presidential jets by Chinese company, Zhongshan, following a French Court order. In a personal statement issued via X, Prof. Utomi attributed the seizure to the violation of contract terms by former Governor Amosun, successor to the initial contract signer.
Prof. Utomi expressed disappointment, stating, “So it was Gov Amosun’s violation of contract terms signed by his predecessor that brought the shame of seizure of jets from the Presidential fleet. I hope he is happy at his achievement.” He described the situation as “Khama at work,” implying a web of deceit and corruption.
The professor shared his personal experience with former Gov. Ibikunle Amosun, recounting how his legitimate lease agreement for OPIC land in Lagos was halted, leading to a prolonged and frustrating process. Despite efforts to resolve the issue, including seeking help from the then All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders, now President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and Baba Bisi Akande, and later Governor Dapo Abiodun, no resolution was reached.
Prof. Utomi drew parallels between his experience and the seizure of the Presidential jets, highlighting the consequences of violating contracts and the importance of learning from past mistakes.
He referenced his new book, “Power, Policy, Politics, and Performance,” which documents similar case studies, including one in Enugu involving South African investors.
The professor’s statement serves as a call to action, emphasizing the need for values to shape human progress and warning against the dangers of contract violations and corruption.
