In a bold move, Edo youths have come out in strong opposition to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate in the upcoming governorship election, instead throwing their weight behind the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo.
At a gathering in Ekpoma, the Youth Alliance for Edo Unity and Progress (YAEUP) reaffirmed their unwavering support for Okpebholo, citing his outstanding leadership qualities, vision for the state, and commitment to improving the lives of Edo people.
“Senator Monday Okpebholo remains an outstanding leader who will transform the state from its current state of economic distress to a more economically viable and prosperous state,” said Dr. Matthew Agbonifo, YAEUP Director of Mobilization.
The youths listed the terrible condition of the state, widespread poverty, neglect of the economic wellbeing of the people, squandering of the state’s meagre resources on bogus contracts, and stunted growth as key achievements of the current PDP administration.
In contrast, they praised Okpebholo’s agenda, which prioritizes protecting lives, property, and rights, improving government efficiency, and promoting better education, youth development, industry, and commerce.
“Senator Monday Okpebholo will make life comfortable for the people of Edo State, appoint more youths and women to major posts, bring millions into the state’s social security system, provide funds for medical research, hospitals, and urban renewal,” Agbonifo said.
The youths urged eligible voters to reject the PDP and Labour Party candidates, instead embracing Okpebholo’s vision for a better Edo State.
With their endorsement, the youths have sent a strong message that they will not settle for anything less than a leader who prioritizes their welfare and the development of the state.
