Minister of Power Emphasizes Need for Continuous Training in Power Industry

The Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has stressed the importance of continuous training for personnel in the power industry, highlighting its role in enhancing professionalism, performance, and productivity.

He made this emphasis during a courtesy visit by members of the Chartered Institute of Power Engineers of Nigeria (CIPEN) at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.

Adelabu noted that such training is crucial to the success of the reforms being implemented in the power sector, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He encouraged the institute to collaborate with the ministry, its agencies, and stakeholders to ensure efficient power delivery to Nigerians.

The Minister urged CIPEN to develop a comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) outlining areas of cooperation and relationships with the ministry and its agencies.

He congratulated the institute on its establishment, acknowledging its potential to add value to the sector.

Adelabu advised CIPEN to be receptive to ideas and focus on intellectual capacity building to get the best out of personnel.

He also suggested scouting and training young engineers from host communities, which could provide employment opportunities and introduce professionalism in power engineering.

The President and Chairman of the Governing Council of CIPEN, Engr. Israel E. Abraham, commended the Minister’s reforms, which have increased power generation and supply in the country.

He explained that the institute was established to promote professionalism and ethical practices in the power sector.

Abraham highlighted the institute’s regulatory and professional role, empowered to set standards for individuals seeking to become Chartered Power Engineers in Nigeria.

He expressed appreciation for the Minister’s contributions to the power sector and sought collaboration to enhance their mandates and contribute to the development of Nigeria’s power sector.

The meeting marked a significant step towards strengthening the partnership between the Ministry of Power and CIPEN, with the shared goal of creating a more professional, efficient, and robust power sector in Nigeria.
