Multi-Billion Naira Drugs Scam: Kano Anti-Graft Agency Arrests Top Officials, Pharmaceutical Boss, and Politician’s Nephew
In a shocking move, the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission has arrested several high-ranking officials and individuals in connection with a massive drugs supply scam.
The suspects, including Alhaji Mohammed Kabawa, Permanent Secretary of the state Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and Abdullahi Bashir, Chairman of the state branch of the Association for Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), are accused of violating public procurement laws.
Also arrested were the Managing Director of Novomed Pharmaceuticals and Garba Musa Kwankwaso, nephew of Senator Rabi’u Kwankwaso, leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
The suspects allegedly conspired to award a contract to Novomed Pharmaceuticals for the supply of drugs to 38 local government areas in the state, with each local government paying N9.1 million.
However, preliminary investigations revealed that the drugs were never supplied, resulting in a staggering loss of N346.8 million.
The commission’s Public Relations Officer, Kabiru I. Kabiru, confirmed the arrests and stated that the investigation is ongoing. Kabiru assured that the commission is working tirelessly to unravel the full extent of the scam and bring those responsible to justice. The suspects are currently in the commission’s custody, cooperating with the investigation team.
This high-profile case has sent shockwaves through the state, highlighting the need for greater transparency and accountability in government contracts. The people of Kano demand justice and expect the commission to leave no stone unturned in uncovering the truth behind this massive scam.
