The Federal Government of Nigeria has condemned the brutal murder of 12 miners at Unguwar Magro Village in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, pledging to avenge their death and bring the perpetrators to justice. Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake, announced that security agencies are on the trail of the bandits responsible for the attack and will soon apprehend them.
As a precautionary measure, the government has banned all mining activities at the scene of the attack until investigations are concluded. Dr. Alake expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and assured that the government will not rest until mines across the country are safe from bandits and criminal elements.
The Minister revealed that the Mining Marshals are collaborating with intelligence units and other security agencies to track the bandits, suspected to have infiltrated Shiroro Local Government from neighboring states. He warned that the government will no longer tolerate illegal mining activities and vowed to prosecute anyone found complicit in such operations, including non-Nigerians.
Dr. Alake emphasized that the government is taking the issue of banditry in the mining sector seriously and will not hesitate to take decisive action against those involved. He cautioned embassies in Nigeria to monitor the activities of their nationals in the mining sector, as allegations of criminal conduct pose a threat to bilateral harmony between Nigeria and other countries.
The government’s swift response to the Shiroro mines killings has been commended, with many Nigerians calling for decisive action against bandits and criminal elements in the mining sector. The ban on mining activities at the attack scene is seen as a positive step towards ensuring the safety and security of miners across the country.
