The Obidient Movement, a political group championed by Peter Obi, has announced a new era of unity and coordination, marking a significant milestone in its journey to birth a New Nigeria.
In a statement released by Dr. Yunusa Tanko, Interim National Coordinator of the movement, the group acknowledged the need to become more efficient in managing its diverse factions, interests, and leadership dynamics.
The movement, which emerged after the 2023 elections, has been working towards building a united front to drive its mission of creating a New Nigeria that works for everyone.
The statement comes after a meeting on the X Space platform on September 2, 2024, where a New Nigeria Agenda was formally announced, and a political structure for the Obidient Movement was introduced.
Dr. Tanko acknowledged that personal agendas and differences had sometimes led to division within the movement.
However, he emphasized the need to proactively design frameworks and systems that allow diversity to remain a strength. He also expressed appreciation to those who supported the movement during and after the elections.
The statement apologized for grievances and feelings of disenfranchisement that emerged within the ranks and recognized them as real and valid.
Dr. Tanko called for unity and a shared vision, emphasizing the need for a clear set of rules of engagement underpinned by respect, tolerance, and understanding.
The movement has started consultations to finalize its operational structure and encouraged everyone to participate actively in the process.
A formal online registration across the Federation has also been announced to support mobilization efforts.
Dr. Tanko concluded by thanking members for their commitment and urging them to move forward together with renewed vigor and a shared purpose.
The Obidient Movement’s new era of unity and coordination is seen as a significant step towards achieving its mission of building a New Nigeria.
