Kogi-born Student Unionist, Otaru Muhammed Onimisi, Urges Governor Ododo to Prioritize Bursary Allocations
Comrade Otaru Muhammed Onimisi, a student unionist and Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the President of the All Africa Students’ Union (AASU), has commended Governor Ododo’s administration for its prompt payment of salaries and pensions to civil servants and retirees in Kogi State.
However, he called on the state governor to extend this gesture to students in higher institutions by prioritizing the payment of bursary allocations.
In a press statement, Comrade Otaru Muhammed Onimisi, Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the AASU President, noted that while the timely payment of salaries and pensions has brought relief to workers and retirees, students are still struggling to access funds to support their education.
Onimisi emphasized that students are the future of the state and deserve similar attention to enable them to complete their studies without financial hardship.
The union argued that the cost of higher education continues to rise, placing many students from humble backgrounds in precarious positions. It urged Governor Ododo to ensure the prompt and regular payment of bursary allocations to alleviate the financial strain on families and empower the next generation of leaders.
Onimisi highlighted the importance of education in the development of any society, stating that a state that supports its students today will reap the rewards of an educated, capable workforce tomorrow.
He called on all Kogites to rally behind Governor Ododo’s efforts to better the lives of the people, emphasizing the need for collective support and cooperation to achieve sustained progress.
The AASU’s press statement concluded by urging Governor Ododo to cement his legacy by investing in the intellectual growth of Kogi’s students, ensuring that every student, regardless of their financial background, has access to the funds necessary to complete their education.
