Maiduguri, Borno State – The Labour Party, led by its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has extended a helping hand to the people of Borno State, affected by the recent devastating floods.
On Tuesday, Obi, accompanied by top party officials, including Senator Nenadi Usman, National Chairman of the Party’s caretaker, and Dr. Datti Baba-Ahmad, his running mate, visited Maiduguri to condole with the state government and affected residents.
The team made an initial donation of N50 million to the state government’s emergency relief fund, demonstrating their commitment to supporting those affected by the floods.
During their visit, they met with Governor Babagana Zulum, His Highness the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Ibn Umar Garba Al Amin El-Kanemi, and visited various locations, including:
- Bank of the North spare parts market, where traders lost their goods
- An IDP camp in Government College
- The residence of a woman who tragically lost her newborn twins to the flood
Obi emphasized the Labour Party’s dedication to aiding the people of Borno, stating, “We will continue to stand with the people of Borno, providing aid and resources to help them rebuild and recover from this tragedy.”
He also acknowledged the efforts of the state and federal governments in responding to the disaster, saying, “I thank the various levels of government, especially the Borno State government, for their interventions and support for the affected people.”
The visit underscores Obi’s commitment to supporting Nigerians in times of need and demonstrates the Labour Party’s willingness to provide aid and resources to affected communities.
