Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has emphasized the critical role women play in nation-building, calling for deeper women economic empowerment and financial inclusion programs across the country.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Nigeria for Women Project, a World Bank-backed initiative, Oborevwori stressed that empowering women is essential for sustainable national development. He commended the World Bank for choosing Delta State for the project and charged the committee to approach the task with seriousness.
Oborevwori highlighted his administration’s commitment to women empowerment through the “Opportunity for All” component of the MORE agenda. This includes increasing women’s participation in politics, appointing women to key positions, and providing economic empowerment programs.
The Governor believes economic empowerment improves women’s self-worth, enables them to take control of their lives, and leads to development and happiness. Recently, his administration approved a grant scheme to empower 5,000 women across Delta State.
World Bank representatives described the Nigeria for Women Project as a flagship initiative for women’s economic empowerment, aiming to provide vulnerable women with access to financial inclusion and markets.
The Steering Committee, comprised of top state officials, pledged to work diligently to ensure the program’s success and contribute to the Governor’s MORE Agenda.
As Delta State leads the charge in women empowerment, the nation takes a significant step towards recognizing the inherent abilities of women to drive social change and contribute to governance. Empowering women is not just a moral imperative; it’s a key to unlocking Nigeria’s full potential.
