Nigeria’s Hunger Crisis: Peter Obi Urges Swift Action
Nigeria’s ranking among the world’s 20 most hungry nations has prompted Labour Party leader Peter Obi to sound the alarm, emphasizing the need for immediate intervention. In a statement marking World Food Day, Obi expressed dismay over Nigeria’s dire food insecurity situation.
The Global Hunger Index’s troubling report projects 82 million Nigerians at risk of hunger by 2030. This grim outlook underscores the country’s worsening food crisis.
Obi attributed Nigeria’s struggles to security challenges and fuel subsidy removal.
He reiterated his signature “consumption to production” mantra, stressing agricultural investment and modern farming methods as key solutions.
Nigeria’s vast arable land and demographics remain underutilized, Obi noted. “Prioritizing agriculture and combating insecurity will unlock our potential,” he said.
The World Bank has likened Nigeria’s deteriorating food security to war-torn Yemen. Obi cautioned the situation is more severe than reported.
Labour Party leader Peter Obi envisioned a prosperous Nigeria, free from hunger and abundant in food supply. His call to action echoes his 2023 presidential campaign.
“We must transform our economy from consumption-driven to production-oriented,” Obi emphasized. “Agricultural development and food security are crucial.”
