President Tinubu Orders Nigerian Troops to End Insecurity in Zamfara, North West
In a decisive move to tackle the escalating insecurity in Zamfara State and the North West region, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed Nigerian troops to eradicate the menace. This directive was conveyed by the Minister of Defence, H.E. Mohammed Badaru Abubakar CON, mni, during his visit to Zamfara State to assess the progress of the Headquarters of Joint Task Force Operation Fansan Yamma North West.
The Minister emphasized the Federal Government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the success of the operation, citing significant deployment and progress made thus far. President Tinubu is deeply concerned about the security situation in the North West, particularly in Zamfara.
The region’s security crisis stems from long-running competition over land and water resources between predominantly Fulani herders and mainly Hausa farmers, who have mobilized armed groups for protection.
During the briefing, the Minister expressed satisfaction with the troops’ readiness and charged them to intensify their efforts against bandit kingpins. “We will finish them,” he emphasized, urging community cooperation and prayer for the troops’ success. The new operation launched aims to address insecurity in Zamfara State and the North West region.
The Minister visited the Combat 2, 17 Brigade along Tsafe Shema Gusua road and Forward Operation Base of the Joint Task Force Operation Fansan Yamma, commending the troops for their relentless efforts in securing the notorious road.
He acknowledged recent successes and urged the Nigerian troops to sustain the momentum, ensuring the road remains safe and free for motorists.
In Government House, the Minister briefed the Executive Governor of Zamfara State, H.E. Dauda Lawal, on the purpose of his visit. The Governor highlighted the current security situation in the State, affirming that the State government, with military support, will take the fight to the bandits in their hideouts. “As you all are aware, we are facing a lot of security challenges in Zamfara State. But with the support of the Military, we will take the fight to them and finish them.”
The North West region has been plagued by banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism, with states like Zamfara, Kaduna, Katsina, and Kebbi being hotspots of armed banditry.
The Federal Government’s commitment to ending insecurity in the region is crucial to restoring peace and stability.
With the launch of the new operation, hopes are high that the security situation in Zamfara State and the North West region will improve significantly.
The troops’ dedication and commitment to winning the fight against insecurity are crucial in achieving this goal.
