Tinubu Appoints Oluyede as Acting Chief of Army Staff
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Major General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede as the acting Chief of Army Staff (COAS), pending the return of the substantive Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja.
According to Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President (Information & Strategy), “President Tinubu has full confidence in Major General Oluyede’s ability to lead the Nigerian Army effectively during this transitional period.”
Oluyede, 56, brings extensive experience to the role, having served as the 56th Commander of the elite Infantry Corps of the Nigerian Army in Jaji, Kaduna. “I am honored to serve as acting Chief of Army Staff,” Oluyede stated. “I will ensure continuity and stability in the Nigerian Army, building on the foundations laid by my predecessor.”
With a distinguished military career spanning over three decades, Oluyede has held various command positions, including Platoon Commander, Company Commander, and Staff Officer Guards Brigade. He has also participated in several high-profile operations, including the Economic Community of West African States Monitoring Group (ECOMOG) Mission in Liberia and Operation HADIN KAI in the North East.
“As a seasoned veteran, I understand the challenges facing our nation,” Oluyede said. “I am committed to working tirelessly to ensure the Nigerian Army remains a formidable force, protecting our citizens and upholding national interests.”
Oluyede’s appointment has been widely praised. “Major General Oluyede is an exceptional officer with a proven track record,” said a senior military official. “His experience and leadership skills make him an ideal choice for this critical role.”
President Tinubu emphasized the importance of continuity and stability in the Nigerian Army. “Major General Oluyede’s appointment ensures seamless leadership, allowing our military to focus on protecting Nigeria’s interests,” he stated.
Oluyede has received numerous honors for his meritorious service, including the Corps Medal of Honour, the Grand Service Star, and the coveted Chief of Army Staff Commendation Award.
As he assumes his new role, Oluyede vowed to build on the successes of his predecessor. “I will work closely with all stakeholders to ensure the Nigerian Army remains a symbol of national pride and strength.”
