Enugu ALGON Chairman Empowers Youths Through Massive Skills Acquisition Programme in Nkanu East
Hon. Okechukwu Sydney Edeh, the Executive Chairman of Nkanu East Local Government Area, who is also the chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Enugu State and the ALGON National Publicity Secretary, has reaffirmed his commitment to delivering Governor Peter Mbah’s campaign promises, particularly in the areas of youth empowerment and poverty alleviation.
Speaking at a skills acquisition programme organized by the “Tomorrow is Here Initiative,” Edeh emphasized the importance of grassroots inclusive growth in promoting job creation and reducing poverty.
“Zero tolerance to unemployment is gaining traction in the face of the present economic trajectory, and it must begin with effective, efficient, and sustainable programmes,” Edeh stated.
He noted that these programmes should offer opportunities, stimulate a sense of belonging, and provide vocational education, skills acquisition, and empowerment to build automatic ownership of wealth creation among youths.
Edeh commended Governor Peter Mbah for supporting Enugu youths through skill acquisition and empowerment initiatives.
He described the vocation/skill acquisition programmes as the linchpin for a new economic renaissance across the 17 LGAs in Enugu State.
The Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Lloyd Ekweremadu, also emphasized the importance of critical skill development among youths in achieving the zero poverty mandate of Governor Peter Mbah’s administration.
He thanked Hon. Edeh for his massive support and commitments throughout the training period, which has recorded huge returns.
The event featured the presentation of prizes to participants who excelled in the training programme. Miss Ngọzi Edeh emerged as the overall best, while Agunwa Michael and Elochukwu Uzochi came second and third, respectively.
The Chairman also rewarded 10 additional persons with take-off grants and equipment.
Dignitaries in attendance included the Deputy Chairman of Nkanu East LGA, Hon. Paul Okwor, and the Coordinator of the “Tomorrow is Here Initiative,” Hon. Promise Ikejiofor.
