Nigeria’s Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Mohammed Bello Matawalle, has revealed that the Nigerian Armed Forces have made significant strides in combating insurgency, banditry, and other threats to national security.
Despite these achievements, Matawalle noted that many of these success stories remain undisclosed to the public due to security concerns, aimed at protecting the brave men and women of the Armed Forces.
Matawalle made these remarks during a meeting with Hadiza Bala Usman, Special Assistant to the President on Policy and Coordination, and Head of the Central Result Delivery Coordination Unit (CRDCU).
The meeting focused on the 1st-3rd Quarters 2024 Performance Assessment Report, which highlights the Ministry’s progress in implementing presidential priorities and ministerial deliverables.
The Minister emphasized that the Nigerian Armed Forces have successfully reduced incidents of oil theft, bunkering, piracy, and kidnapping since the current administration took office. Matawalle assured Nigerians that the Ministry remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens.
In response, Hadiza Bala Usman advised the Ministry of Defence to share more data with the public, highlighting the importance of transparency in showcasing the successes achieved by the Armed Forces. Usman suggested conducting regional tours of troubled areas to gather firsthand information and showcase the government’s efforts in addressing insecurity.
Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, presented a detailed report on the Ministry’s achievements and pledged to surpass previous quarter’s reports. Kana commended the Chief of Defence Staff and all Service Chiefs for their tireless efforts in maintaining peace and security in Nigeria.
