Armed Counterfeit Biafra Agitators Wreak Havoc in Anambra, Abduct Victims and Steal Vehicles As InterSociety Boss Narrates Ordeal
A devastating string of attacks has been carried out by armed counterfeit Biafra agitators in Anambra State, leaving a trail of terror and destruction in their wake. The attacks, which occurred on November 27 and December 5, 2024, resulted in the abduction of several victims and the theft of multiple vehicles.
According to eyewitnesses, the armed group, numbering over 15, openly identified themselves as “loyalists of the Biafran Prime Minister” fighting for “Biafran Independence.” They were seen shouting “Biafra or Nothing !!!” amid war-grade shootings and raining of bullets.
The attacks have been linked to the armed counterfeit Biafra agitators, who are suspected to be working in conjunction with jihadist Fulani herdsmen and other violent criminal entities. The group has been terrorizing communities in Umunze, Ihite, Ndiokoliorji, Arondizuogu, Obinaetiti, Okigwe, and environs.
In one of the incidents, the wife and son of a prominent human rights activist, Emeka Umeagbalasi, were attacked and their vehicle stolen. The activist’s family members, including his wife, son, house-girl, and friend-driver, were forced out of the vehicle at gunpoint and held hostage under raining bullets and death threats.
The vehicle, a Mitsubishi Hilux, was later recovered by the police, but not before the armed group had made off with several valuable items, including cash, jewelry, and domestic appliances.
According to Emeka Umeagbalasi, the leader of the International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (Intersociety), the attacks were carried out by armed counterfeit Biafra agitators who have been terrorizing the region. Umeagbalasi stated that the group’s actions are a clear indication of their intention to disrupt the peace and stability of the region.
The Intersociety has written to the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, seeking the release of the recovered vehicle and domestic items. The group has also demanded that the police ensure the safety and intactness of all domestic items contained in the vehicle.
The attacks have sparked widespread concern and outrage, with many calling for increased action to address the root causes of the violence and ensure the safety of citizens. The Anambra State Government has been urged to take immediate action to address the security challenges facing the state and to bring the perpetrators of the attacks to justice.
In a related development, the Anambra State Police Command has issued a statement confirming the attacks and the recovery of the stolen vehicle. The command has assured the public that it is working tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of all citizens in the state.
The incident has also raised concerns about the safety of human rights activists and their families in the region. Emeka Umeagbalasi has been a vocal advocate for human rights and the rule of law in Nigeria, and his family has been targeted by armed groups in the past.
The International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (Intersociety) has called on the Nigerian government to take immediate action to address the security challenges facing the country and to ensure the safety and security of all citizens. The group has also urged the government to investigate the attacks and bring the perpetrators to justice.
The Street Reporters Newspaper recalls that the self-acclaimed Prime Minister of Biafran Government in Exile, Mazi Simon Ekpa, and four others have been arrested on allegations bordering on terrorism in Finland. The Finnish authorities recently froze the assets of the detained “Prime Minister” and transferred him to a higher-security prison.
Mazi Ekpa and his group, codenamed Autopilot, have been disowned by the leadership of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and it’s founder, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
The violent agitators have been fingered in several terror activities in parts of the South East since the extraordinary rendition of Nnamdi Kanu from Kenya by the Federal Government of Nigeria and his long incarceration.
Many South East leaders have called for his release to minimise the activities of criminal elements masquerading as Biafra agitators in the region to no avail as the government of Nigeria has continued to keep the IPOB leader in the custody of Nigeria’s secret police, the Department of State Services (DSS).
