Agba Jalingo Foundation Announces Symposium on Journalism and Cyber Crimes Act
The Agba Jalingo Foundation for Investigative and Accountability Journalism (AJFIAJ) is set to host a one-day symposium aimed at addressing the challenges and opportunities in digital journalism under the theme, “Journalism and Crossing the Cyber Crimes Act Hurdles.” The event will take place on January 2nd, 2025, at the Pearl Ball Hall, Transcorp Hotel, Calabar, starting at 10:00 am.
According to an invitation sent to our correspondent by an investigative journalist and the founder of the body, Citizen Agba Jalingo, the symposium will feature a distinguished lineup of guests and speakers, including His Excellency, Senator Bassey Edet Otu, Governor of Cross River State, who will serve as the Special Guest of Honour.
Other notable Guests of Honour include His Excellency, Chief Clement Ebri, His Excellency, Donald Duke, and His Excellency, Senator Liyel Imoke.
Nneota Egbe, Editor at Channels Television, will deliver the keynote address on “Digital Journalism: Existing Laws, Professionalism, and the Implications.”
Fisayo Soyombo, Founder of the Foundation for Investigative Journalists (FIJ), will also speak on “Investigative Journalism in the Digital Age: History and Navigating Legal Conundrums.”
A panel discussion on “Digital Journalism and Community Building: Business, Legal, and Practical Perspectives” will feature prominent panelists such as Dayo Aiyetan, Founder of the International Center for Investigative Reporting (ICIR); F. Baba Isa Esq., Legal Practitioner; Dr. Monday Ashibogwu, CEO of Republic Media Limited; and Charles Kalu, General Manager of People’s FM, Abuja.
The AJFIAJ invites media practitioners, journalists, bloggers, vloggers, law enforcement agents, storytellers, and stakeholders interested in freedom of expression to participate in the event which is expected to be very insightful.
The symposium aims to foster a deeper understanding of the legal landscape affecting digital journalism and to promote professional excellence in the field.
