In a move aimed at improving the welfare of customary court judges and members in Enugu State, Governor Peter Mbah has approved a salary review for the 459 customary court judges across the state’s 153 customary courts.
This development is in line with the state’s N80,000 minimum wage, which is higher than the national minimum wage of N70,000.
According to Reuben Onyishi, the senior special assistant to Governor Mbah on New Media, the salary review will take effect from January.
The review is a response to the high cost of living, which necessitated the increase in the national minimum wage. Governor Mbah’s administration had earlier increased the minimum wage in Enugu State to N80,000, demonstrating its commitment to improving the lives of workers in the state.
The salary review also applies to the chairpersons and members of the customary courts. Specifically, the salaries of chairpersons have been increased from N42,989.76 to N92,989.76, while those of members have been increased from N39,736.18 to N89,736.18.
This development is expected to boost the morale of customary court judges and members, enabling them to perform their duties more effectively.
The approval of the salary review is a testament to Governor Mbah’s commitment to improving the welfare of workers in Enugu State.
The governor’s administration has been working tirelessly to ensure that workers in the state receive a fair compensation for their services.
With this salary review, customary court judges and members can now look forward to a better remuneration package.
