The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called on state governors to deploy Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered buses for mass transit, as part of efforts to reduce the country’s reliance on petrol and promote a cleaner environment.

NLC President, Joe Ajaero, made the demand in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, at the weekend, while unveiling of 10 CNG-powered buses for the South West zone out of the 60 buses donated by the Federal Government.

According to the NLC, the use of CNG-powered buses would not only reduce the operating costs of the buses but also provide a cleaner and more sustainable alternative to petrol-powered buses.

The Congress noted that the deployment of CNG-powered buses would also create jobs and stimulate economic growth in the transportation sector.

The NLC’s call comes as the federal government continues to explore alternative energy sources to reduce the country’s reliance on petrol.

State governors have been urged to take the lead in promoting the use of CNG-powered buses in their respective states, as part of efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote a cleaner environment.

The NLC’s call is expected to resonate with state governors who are committed to promoting sustainable development and reducing their states’ reliance on petrol.
