In a scathing press statement released today, January 28, 2025, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused former Vice President and Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, of being the mastermind behind his party’s catastrophic disintegration.
According to Felix Morka, Esq., National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Atiku’s political desperation is the driving force behind the PDP’s downfall.
The APC’s statement comes on the heels of Atiku’s warning at the national conference on Strengthening Democracy in Nigeria, held in Abuja on January 27, 2025. Atiku alleged that the nation’s democracy is under threat due to judicial involvement in electoral matters. However, the APC has countered that Atiku’s criticism of the courts and the electoral process is hypocritical, given his own history of using the courts to further his political agenda.
Furthermore, the APC has dismissed Atiku’s claim that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is paying opposition leaders 50 million naira each to destabilize opposition parties as “bogus and laughable.”
The ruling party has also accused Atiku of peddling rumours and unsubstantiated allegations, which should be beneath someone of his standing as an elder statesman and former Vice President.
The APC’s statement concludes that Atiku’s political desperation is responsible for the PDP’s disintegration, and that Nigerians should not be distracted by the false alarms and hollow allegations of desperate politicians. Instead, the APC urged Atiku to focus on rebuilding his party and offering constructive solutions to Nigeria’s challenges.
As the 2027 general elections approach, it remains to be seen how the PDP will recover from its current state of disarray. Is Atiku’s desperation the root of PDP’s troubles?
Time will tell as the battle for political supremacy in Nigeria is heating up, and the stakes have never been higher.
