The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) FCT Executive Committee has reaffirmed its unwavering support for the unity of the party at the national level. In a communique released after a meeting held at the State Secretariat on February 6, 2025, the committee expressed its appreciation for the party leaders’ resolve to remain in the PDP, debunking rumors from opposition forces.
According to the Communiqué signed by the state Publicity Secretary of the party, Josephine Itoyah-Splendor, “The State Executives appreciates the Leaders of the Party for their resolutions to remain in the PDP, a stand that debunks the ugly rumour from opposition forces.” This statement underscores the committee’s commitment to unity and its determination to disregard rumors and distractions.
Regarding the upcoming primary elections, the committee has ruled out favouritism and imposition of aspirants. “The Exco Committee rules that favouritism and imposition of aspirants will not be tolerated,” the communique stated. Instead, the committee emphasized the need for transparent and credible processes to produce winnable candidates for the general elections.
The state leadership noted that leaders are expected to act as umpires, rather than promoting personal interests. As the communique noted, “Leaders should assume the posture of umpires rather than interest peddlers.” This statement highlights the committee’s commitment to fairness and transparency in the electoral process.
The committee also stressed the importance of setting up machinery for victory at the 2026 polls, starting from the ward level. “Machinery for victory of the party at the 2026 polls should be set-up in the various wards and its continuous oiling should begin now,” the communique stated.
In addition, the committee encouraged consensus building as a tool to foster unity and advance victory. “Consensus is a tool designed by the party highest hierarchy of authority to foster unity and advance victory at the general polls with minimum energy vested on reconciliation within party units,” the communique noted. However, where consensus is not possible, the committee emphasized that credible and peaceful elections will be held.
After the primary elections, the committee declared that all aspirants’ structures will collapse into the party structure. “After Primary elections which is termed no victory no vanquished, ONE PDP, all structures of Aspirants will collapse into the party structure,” the communique stated. This statement underscores the committee’s commitment to unity and its determination to put the party’s interests above individual ambitions.
Finally, the committee reiterated its commitment to upholding the party’s unity and progress, regardless of the cost. “The unity and progress of the FCT is most paramount at these times and the Executive is bound to upheld it however the cost May God give us victory always,” the communique concluded.
Overall, the PDP FCT Executive Committee’s communique reflects the party’s commitment to unity, transparency, and fairness in the electoral process. As the party prepares for the 2026 polls, this commitment will be crucial in ensuring its success.
