Labour Party’s presidential candidate in Nigeria’s 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, has concluded a visit to Indonesia, where he engaged in insightful discussions with top government officials.
The visit, which took place on Monday, February 3rd, and Tuesday, February 4th, provided Obi with valuable perspectives on governance strategies and development initiatives implemented in Indonesia.
Obi’s first meeting was with Agung Laksono, former Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, who shared insights into the governance strategies of former Presidents Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Joko Widodo. Laksono emphasized the importance of planning, execution, and determination in driving Indonesia’s transformation, with a focus on measurable development in critical areas.
The former governor of Anambra State also met with Muhammad Jusuf Kalla, former Vice President of Indonesia, who served under both Yudhoyono and Widodo. Kalla highlighted the significance of focused commitment and decisive leadership in achieving simultaneous development across all sectors.
Furthermore, Obi engaged with Yandri Susanto, the Minister of Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions, who detailed the ministry’s efforts in advancing rural development through education, healthcare, and support for micro and small businesses.
Susanto emphasized the importance of a structured approach in ensuring targeted progress and effective governance.
Drawing from his experiences in Indonesia, Obi emphasized the need for Nigeria to adopt structured, data-driven policies focused on rural development, industrialization, and diversification.
He believes that with political will and strategic execution, Nigeria can achieve inclusive and sustainable growth, unlocking its full potential and ensuring no region is left behind.
