University of Ibadan Debunks Armed Robbery Rumours, Confirms Lone Thief Incident

The University of Ibadan has issued a public notice to correct misinformation circulating about an alleged armed robbery incident at the Awolowo Hall of Residence. According to the notice, the incident was actually a lone thief who entered two rooms in the hall and stole mobile phones belonging to students.

According to the public notice, the rooms were inadvertently left open by the students themselves, and the thief fled immediately when an alarm was raised. The safety officers promptly responded, and the police were alerted, with efforts made to track the thief.

The University Management emphasized that no students were harmed or traumatized during the incident, contrary to reports of an armed robbery attack. The Management assured the public of the safety of lives and property on the campus.

The notice stated, “Management states that it was not a case of armed robbery as being touted by misguided newshounds bent on embarrassing the University.” The University’s Registrar, Ganiyu O. Saliu, who signed the notice, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of its students.
