The National Association of Female Comrades has condemned the brutal murders of Yetunde Lawal, a final-year student of Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin, and Salome Adaidu, a youth corps member serving in Abuja. Both women were killed by their boyfriends in separate incidents, leaving their families, friends, and communities in a state of grief and trauma.

The leadership of the association said in a statement on Monday that “We strongly condemn these heinous crimes and demand justice for the victims and their families.”

Calling for justice for the victims of femicide, especially Yetunde Lawal and Salome Adaidu, the body of female comrades urged law enforcement agencies to identify and bring the perpetrators of the heinous crimes to justice.
“We urge the law enforcement agencies to thoroughly investigate these cases, identify the perpetrators, and ensure that they are held accountable for their actions.”

The association also demanded that the government takes immediate action to address the root causes of these senseless killings and ensures that measures are put in place to prevent such incidents from happening again in the future.

According to the association, the alarming rate of femicide in Nigeria is a stark reminder of the failure of the justice system to protect women and girls. “Despite the efforts of women’s rights organizations and advocates, femicide remains a pervasive and entrenched problem in our society,” they noted.

The association emphasized that the fact that women are being killed by their intimate partners, who are supposed to love and protect them, is a clear indication that society has failed to recognize the value and worth of women’s lives.

To address this crisis, the association called on the federal government to establish policies and laws that protect women from violence and discrimination. They also demanded adequate funding and resources to support women’s rights organizations and initiatives that work to prevent femicide and support survivors of violence.
“We demand that the government provides adequate funding and resources to support women’s rights organizations and initiatives that work to prevent femicide and support survivors of violence.”

Furthermore, the association urged the government to take concrete steps to address the social and cultural norms that perpetuate violence against women. This includes working to change the mindset of men and boys who believe that violence against women is acceptable, and promoting a culture of respect, equality, and justice for all.

“We will not remain silent in the face of such brutality,” the association stated. “We demand an end to femicide and all forms of violence against women. We stand in solidarity with the families of the victims and with all women who have been affected by violence.”

  1. Let the federal government re-enforce a law concerning this femicide and let justice be served accordingly
