PDP Postpones South-South Congress Indefinitely

The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party has approved the postponement of the South-South Zonal Congress, which was initially scheduled for Saturday, February 22, 2025.

This was disclosed in a statement issued Thursday night by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba.

“The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) @OfficialPDPNig has approved the postponement of the South-South Zonal Congress of our great party, earlier scheduled to hold on Saturday, February 22, 2025,” the statement partly read.

While confirming the postponement, the NWC assured that the South-East and North-East Zonal Congresses would proceed as originally scheduled.

“The NWC, however, confirms that the South-East and North-East Zonal Congresses will hold as already scheduled on Saturday, 22 February 2025, at the party’s zonal headquarters in Enugu and Bauchi states, respectively.

“The postponement of the South-South Congress is necessitated by the need for further consultation on critical issues relating to the smooth conduct of the congress in the zone,” it stated.

The party expressed regret over any inconvenience the postponement may have caused, stating that a new date for the South-South Congress would be announced in due course.

It added, “The NWC regrets any inconvenience caused by the postponement of the South-South Zonal Congress. A new date will be communicated in due course.”

The statement also urged all stakeholders, including aspirants, party leaders, members, and relevant agencies, to take note of the changes.

“All aspirants, critical stakeholders, leaders, and members of our party; the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and security agencies should note the postponement of the South-South Zonal Congress and the conduct of the South-East and North-East Zonal Congresses on Saturday, February 22, 2025, and be guided accordingly,” the statement concluded.
